Our last trip to Sitka was in 2019. We used the going ashore boats and docked right in the downtown area. This trip we were told we would be docking 3 miles outside of the town centre and there would be buses for us to get to town. When we arrived, they've got a very nice brand new dock! Behind us was the Ovation of the Seas so lots of people seeing this lovely town. The buses are free and there were lots of them. We got in before the Ovation and never had to wait. When we returned the lineup was huge. The Ovation has a capacity of 4180 passengers, but I don't know if they are at full capacity.
This year Sitka is expecting 420,000 cruisers. It's double from last year. It is a lovely place with a lot of Russian heritage. It was under Russian rule from 1799 to 1867 when it was purchased by the US.
We are so fortunate with the gorgeous weather! I'll post pictures because you have to see it to appreciate the true beauty of this island.
This is where the going ashore boats would drop us off on earlier cruises. |

In 2019 we saw a beautiful rose garden and some awesome flower beds. Of course it's way too early for those flowers but there are tulips, daffodils and daisies!
We departed at 4:50. Dinner was delicious again tonight, I had scallops for the second night in a row, Started off with Mediterranean salad and crab and corn chowder and ended with Pecan pie! Good thing my steps are double what they are at home. I must say I've been enjoying the Premium Plus that Princess offers!
We had a wonderful Comedian/Magician, Michael Misko in the theatre. Tomorrow is Mother's Day and Cheryl, Dave and Lexie celebrated before we left. Princess is offering a special breakfast in your room for $45.00. My husband said "I'll take you to the buffet". Isn't he special!
Tomorrow we visit Hubbard Glacier!
