Day 2 - Iceland

Yesterday we had a bus trip to the Blue Lagoon.  I was here about 10 years ago but it has really changed.  They remodelled the dressing rooms and now there is no communal shower or communal dressing rooms.  They added private dressing rooms and private showers.  Cheryl and Lexie have never been here and we had a wonderful day.

On the drive in we had gravel roads where the recent lava flow destroyed the previous road.  At the Blue Lagoon, the parking lot is being redone!  The height of the lava flow was amazing.  It's hard to see in this picture below, but I estimate it's over 20 feet in height. This picture was taken in the Blue Lagoon parking lot, right beside the parked cars!

The picture above is new lava from the last eruption.  It covered the road we were driving on to get to the Blue Lagoon.

The above two pictures were taken outside the Blue Lagoon

The lineup at the swim up bar!

You can see the new hotel that is adjacent to the Blue Lagoon!
We spent over two hours in the lagoon,  The water temperature is amazing.  They've also improved the floor of the pool.  I let Lexie choose all of the excursions.  She picked the premium deluxe Blue Lagoon experience.  It included a terry bath robe, three face masks and two drinks at the bar.  Good catch Lexie as it was a nice touch.

10 years ago, there was mud on the floor and you picked the mud up and put it on your face and arms.  Now the floor is a type of hard surface and the mud is gone.  They offer four different masks, Silica mud mask, Algae, Mineral and Lava Scrub masks.  They have a kiosk where you chose your masks in the pool.

After we were out of the pool we had a nice lunch overlooking the lagoon.  Then the bus ride back that dropped us off near our hotel.

After a brief rest, we decided to go shopping.  We try to go to Costco everywhere we travel.

Hot Dog and Drink is $3.00 Canadian and no we didn't order one!

Costco had a lot of goods from European suppliers.  They did have Kirkland Coffee from Washington state.  The lamb was local!  Lots of brands we'd never heard of and everything is in Icelandic that none of us can read.  The store was twice as big as the one we have in Langley with very few shoppers.  There is only one Costco in Iceland.
