We've taken our granddaughter, Lexie, on trips in the summer holidays since she was 6. She caught my love of travel and it's been a pleasure showing her different places. When she was 12 we went to England. I'd never taken her overseas and she was really excited. Before we left, she said "don't make this a school trip, I don't want to go to museums and art galleries". So we had a fun trip.
She's now 20 and just returned from a Mediterranean cruise with with her parents. I laughed at her Instagram posts when she was away. She spent hours in museums and art galleries!
At a family dinner, Lexie asked "what's the most beautiful place I'd been to". I answered "Bora Bora" but said, "don't ever expect to go there unless you win the lottery, it's very expensive, but beautiful". Then she asked "what is the most unique place I'd visited". I answered "Iceland". She asked me all about it. Then she said "why don't we go there" I booked a trip and her mom decided to come along too. We are enroute to Reykjavik. I will post pictures as time and internet permit.
Pack the rain coat, warm clothes and leave the sun screen at home! A summer holiday!
Here is an excellent documentary from Rick Steeves on Iceland:
