Kingston

Kingston is located on Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence.  It was Canada's first capital.  It was the home of Sir John A. MacDonald Canada's first Prime Minister.

Kingston was the home of the Kingston Penitentiary from 1835 to 2013!  It was the home of many Canadian criminals including Paul Bernardo notorious serial rapist and his wife Karla Homolka.  Paul Bernardo was transferred from Kingston when it closed and is now in Millhaven.  He's been denied parole three times and is still serving his life sentence.

We didn't do the Kingston Penitentiary tour but decided to stay on the Hop on Hop Off bus.

Kingston has a lot of military history.  It dates back to 1673.  It is the home of the Royal Military College of Canada.  If you enroll your education is free, but you must commit to serve in the military service.  It's a very large campus.  Marc Garneau and Chris Hadfield both graduated from here,

Kingston has a lot of history that dates back to the 1600's!  It is a very interesting city.  We drove through Queens University.  It was established in 1841 and is one of Canada's most prestigious universities.  The campus was beautiful.

We booked a Premium Lunch cruise around the 1,000 islands.

This was our appetizer and it was delicious.  We also had a bowl of french bread and soft butter.

Lunch was hot and very good.  We both had the Beef Short Ribs.  It started with a salad and ended with cheesecake!  I would highly recommend this tour.  The views were amazing.

George Boldt, a hotel magnate from New York had a huge mansion in the 1000 islands.  His chef created the 1000 island dressing and waldorf salad in these islands!

One of the wealthiest families still living here is the family of Julius Samann.  In 1952, he created the automobile air freshener that looks like a tree!

The cruise had a gentleman who played banjo and guitar!  His songs were great.  They also had a historian who was very informative.  When she stopped, the music began and he was talented.

Here is our view of the Royal Military College of Canada from the cruise.  This shows how many buildings they have at the site.

It was a wonderful day in a historic city!
