Second day in Ottawa

Yesterday was our first day of rain.  Actually it was light drizzle but we were happy to do tours inside.  The drizzle ended in the afternoon.  Our first tour was the National Gallery of Canada.  What a fabulous building.  I couldn't believe how large it was and the ceilings were incredibly high.

The Inuit art was awesome!  So much first nations art and we saw so many items by the Haida.

Many items from the Group of Seven.  There was a room that was all from Tom Thompson.  There was also rooms for paintings from many European countries.

After a great tour of the National Gallery we went to the Royal Canadian Mint.

This isn't my picture as it was drizzling.  You could not take pictures inside the tour, however, I got some pictures in the boutique.

The Royal Canadian Mint's Ottawa headquarters occupies the same historic building in Ottawa where it was founded in 1908.  Today, the facility proudly produces world-renowned collector coins, gold and silver bullion, and medals and medallions that honour those who have made a significant impact on our country.

They minted the medals for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and Paralympics.

I was shocked at how many different coins they produce.  They also produce coins for other countries.

Since 1976, all Canadian currency coins are produced in the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg.
