My travels in August - Thank you Google!

This is actually a little troubling.  Not only do they follow me everywhere I go, they tell me after they've done it. It could be helpful if you were accused of committing a crime. I haven't done felonies lately so I'm turning this feature off.   If you want to turn it off your Android/Google device here's how:

Turn Location History on or off

You can turn off Location History for your account at any time. If you use a work or school account, your administrator needs to make this setting available for you. If they do, you'll be able to use Location History as any other user.

  1. Go to the "Location History" section of your Google Account.
  2. Choose whether your account or your devices can report Location History to Google.
    • Your account and all devices: At the top, turn Location History on or off.
    • Only a certain device: Under "This device" or "Devices on this account," turn the device on or off.

All these stops were lunches, except our nice dinner with Alix, Jamil and Laurie at Swaneset Golf and Country Club.  The red dots are not where we stopped but when you drill into the app, it shows you the time you arrived and the time you left!  It also has me walking but only when I walk to Fresh Street or White Spot.  It didn't capture my Red Hat afternoon at the park.

You can see we are listening to the doctors and staying pretty much at home.

Return to School next week

There has been a lot of discussion on this year's return to school.  We live in the biggest school district in the province.   The Superintendent of Schools asked parents for their input into the return to school.  It appears they really listened to what the parents wanted.

Many were not happy with their children returning to school with what was originally proposed.  My friend Donna's daughter is a cancer survivor with one kidney.  She has two young boys!   Lots of other parents are immune compromised or live with high risk people.  They were all worried if they did online learning, their children would lose their place in the school.  Home schooling was overbooked so that wasn't an option.

Cheryl feels Lexie needs to get back to school.  She received her new school schedule and will go in at regular time five mornings a week and will be off school before noon four days a week.  One day will be a regular full day pickup and she will need to take lunch.  Four afternoons will be online learning and with mom working from home it should be good.  I really hope the schools are safe and the teenagers are instructed on how important it is to wear masks when social distancing isn't possible.  Cheryl or Dave will be driving Lexie to and from school.  She could walk but it's a long walk and safety is a huge concern these days.

Our district listened to parents and are offering online learning for parents who don't want to return their children back to school.  They will not lose their seat in school.  This is very important as many schools are at capacity and also for those children in French Immersion or other specialty programs.   Teachers that are at high risk will be conducting at home learning so it's a win win for students and teachers.

If you want to read exactly what is being proposed the link is below.  I think they've done an amazing job in a difficult situation.

Happy Tuesday

This is beyond words!

Watching Dr. Bonnie Henry, I love the way she speaks to all of us.  I really enjoy her 3PM telecasts.  The BC cases are higher than earlier in the summer.  I hope they decrease soon.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, said on Monday, “we all have to be ready” as cooler weather arrives. She said British Columbians need to take a step back from the social interactions they’ve had this summer and go back to the basics: keep groups small, wash hands, physical distancing.

We are finding most people, including us, wear masks in stores.  It's really nice to see.  Some stores have a sign that says masks are mandatory and they offer masks if you don't have one.

At our Red Hat get together last week one of the ladies is a Snowbird.  She told us she will be going to her winter home in the US for six months.  I asked her if she got medical coverage and she said yes, with the Snowbird Association.  I checked and they are offering COVID medical coverage.  It's her decision to go to the US and I hope it works out for her.

Air Canada Vacations also announced yesterday they will offer COVID insurance.
